The Philosophical Education Project LEGO-LOGOS www.lego-logos.pl uses the natural environment of the child’s play (here playing with LEGO bricks) for teaching philosophy and philosophical thinking in the strict meaning of the word. The project is implemented in Polish and international groups.
The starting point is reading of classical philosophical texts, which are then converted in constructions out of LEGO bricks by participants of the classes. A precise analysis of the constructions and their comparison with texts leads the students to deeper understanding of the discussed texts and presentation of independent, creative visions of their philosophical and artistic interpretation.
The texts read during the classed include, among others, those by Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, Mark Aurelius, as well as Leonardo Da Vinci and Descartes.
The priority aim of the project is developing the children’s and young people’s natural talents for philosophical and creative thinking, artistic creativity, reading with understanding, logical deduction, maintaining dialogue, as well as linguistic talents in case of the children participating in the classes in international groups.
An important objective of the LEGO-LOGOS project is to enable a meeting between children and youth of different nationalities and cultures, so that they can find the common elements of their contemporary way of thinking and life on the plane of ancient philosophy. Participation in the classes is beneficial for strengthening the attitudes of openness and tolerance for different views, nationalities and cultures, thus enabling closer contact and joint action of people with different views, origins and cultures.
